About Nicola

Nicola has been creating stunning gowns for Brides, Bridesmaids, and Mother of the bride and groom for over 20 years, not to mention the myriad of ballgowns and eveningwear. She is an Award-winning designer/dressmaker who has taken top honours in design competitions since she was 15 years old. Her gowns have even been modeled on Wheel of Fortune (back when Lana was the “letter-spinner”) and highlighted in the celebrated “Benson & Hedges Fashion Awards” in the 90’s.

Nicola began sewing at the age of seven and always had a fascination with everything creative. Her skills grew rapidly and by high school Nicola was designing and making balldresses for herself and her friends. It was a natural progression to leave her hometown of Whakatane to attend Wellington Polytechnic’s Fashion Design and Technology Course in which Nicola graduated with a Diploma after three years of dedicated study. From there, she moved to Auckland and opened Nicola Dawson Design. Her passion is obvious as soon as you meet her and before long you will be confident that your wedding gown is in safe and enthusiastic hands.
